The women's soccer team traveled to Adrian this evening and took down conference foe Siena Heights by a final of 2-0 tonight. The win improves the Saints record to 14-2-1 on the season and 9-1 in WHAC play. The win locks up second-place in the WHAC regular season for AQ and a first-round game in the WHACÂ quarterfinals.Â
Aquinas took on a top four team in the WHAC for the second-straight match, and after topping the third-place Siena Heights Saints tonight have turned them both back. Aquinas dominated possession and pace of the game, outshooting their hosts 18-9 on the day, but 10-2 in shots on goal. Aquinas took control of the game early when
Lauryn Deshane picked a great time to score her first of the season. Deshane took a pass from
Jenna Smith and blasted home a goal to the top left corner from 10 yards out. The assist was Smith's 10th of the season, tying her for third-most assists in single-season in Aquinas history.Â
The Saints put things away in the 73rd minute when
Shelby Baxter headed the ball past the keeper off of a corner-kick. Freshman
Macy Hollingsworth had the assist on the play. Once again the Saints' defense held strong, keeping their hosts off the board for their 11th shutout of the season in 17 games.
Braeleigh McCoy, the reigning WHACÂ Defensive Player of the Week, made two saves in net for Aquinas.Â
The Saints' 14th win of the season is the fourth-most in a season in school history, and their 11th shutout is tied for the third-best mark in Aquinas history. They will finish the regular season this Saturday at 3:00 pm against Cleary on Senior Day.Â
