The Aquinas women's volleyball team took a little more than an hour to sweep the visiting Concordia Cardinals on Wednesday night (Oct. 30) in the Sturrus Center. AQ used a strong offense and a solid defensive effort to earn the 25-17, 25-21, and 25-13 victory, which was the team's second straight sweep and the eighth 3-0 win of the year.
With the triumph, Aquinas is 13-12 overall and the Saints improve to 10-6 in WHAC play. AQ remains fifth in the league standings, with four regular season matches remaining. Concordia falls to 4-21 overall and 2-14 in conference action.
The AQ offense (.309, 38 kills, nine errors) played at a high level all match, while limiting the Cardinals to a .097 attack clip and 21 hitting errors. Aquinas also registered an 8-1 advantage in total blocks and a 45-40 edge in digs. The Saints also served up 10 aces (just two for CUAA) and led 37-29 in assists.
14 Saints saw action on Wednesday night, with
Maddie Ingraham leading all players with nine kills and three block assists.
Kylie Christensen put down eight kills for a .471 hitting percentage and added a match-best six block assists.
Payton Klein recorded seven kills and a .538 attack mark, to go with a pair of blocks and an ace. In their combined 30 attempts, Christensen and Klein did not commit a hitting error.
Jackie Rozell notched seven kills, while also serving up five of AQ's 10 aces.
Kenzie Sanders tallied four kills, four digs, a block, and an ace, while
Kali Crawford posted 18 assists, five digs, three kills, and two blocks in the first two sets.
Karly Morris totaled 12 digs, five assists, and three aces, while
Adrien Yondo also picked up 10 digs.
Haylee Hill recorded 12 assists and three digs and
Sam VanHouten nabbed six digs.
AQ is on the road for its next three matches. The Saints head to Adrian, Mich. on Friday (Nov. 1) for a 7:00 p.m. clash with Siena Heights. On Oct. 4 in the Sturrus Center, Aquinas rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two sets and claim the 3-2 victory.
