The Aquinas women's volleyball team swept their ninth opponent this season – and its third 3-0 victim in a row – with a straight set win in Adrian, Mich. on Friday night (Nov. 1). AQ defeated Siena Heights for the second time in 2019, knocking off the home Saints by scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-22.
After nearly knocking off #23 Lawrence Tech – the Blue Devils are in first place in the WHAC – last Friday (Oct. 25), Aquinas has won nine consecutive sets to improve to 11-6 in conference play. Overall, the Saints are 14-12 on the season. Siena Heights had won five matches in a row before Friday night's sweep. SHU is now 10-14 on the season and 7-10 in WHAC action.
AQ moves into a tie for fourth place in the league standings with UNOH (11-6), while the Saints are just one match behind Indiana Tech (12-6) for third place in the conference.
The Aquinas offense doubled up SHU in total kills (43-21), with AQ hitting .195 and Siena Heights mustering only a .000 attack mark (21 kills, 21 errors). Naturally, the visiting Saints also led in assists (40-15), digs (64-47), aces (7-2), and blocks (6-5).
With a match-high 12 kills from
Payton Klein and 10 kills from
Maddie Ingraham, the duo totaled more kills (22) than the entire Siena Heights team (21). Klein hit .381 and chipped in two blocks and an ace, while Ingraham added five digs.
Jackie Rozell put down eight kills in 20 swings and served up two aces to go with two digs and two blocks.
Kenzie Sanders provided seven kills, seven digs, and two blocks, while
Kylie Christensen recorded five kills, three blocks, and two digs.
Kali Crawford notched a 37-assist, 13-dig double-double and
Karly Morris led all players with 18 digs.
Sam VanHouten picked up 10 digs, while
Olivia Martinelli served up three aces.
AQ looks to make it four wins in a row on Saturday (Nov. 2), when the Saints travel to Sylvania, Ohio for a 1:00 p.m. match with Lourdes. Aquinas swept the Gray Wolves on Oct. 5 in the Sturrus Center.
