After a dramatic close to the regular season, the Aquinas College men's soccer team will look to make a march through the postseason starting this Saturday at Lawrence Tech. The Saints will travel to Southfield to take on the Blue Devils on Saturday, November 9th for a 6:00 pm start.
Aquinas entered their game last Saturday against Cleary needing a result to ensure their spot in the WHAC Tournament. The Saints entered the weekend 8th in the WHAC standings, but thanks to a decisive 2-0 win over the Cougars, the Saints jumped Cleary, Siena Heights and UM-Dearborn to land in 5th-place in the final regular-season standings with a 4-4-3 record and 15 points. The Saints finished in 12th place the season before with a 1-10 WHAC mark.
The Saints will take on Lawrence Tech in the 4/5 matchup in the WHAC Quarterfinals. The Blue Devils defeated the Saints 2-0 in Grand Rapids earlier in the season. Aquinas finished the regular season with a 5-7-6 mark, a tremendous improvement from last year's 1-16 record. Bailley Whalley leads the team with eight goals and 16 points in 12 games this season, while
Franco Calabrese and
Fin Pittock lead the Saints with five assists this season.
Jackson Moore has come on late to add eight points in nine games. In goal, freshman
Antonio Strassioto boasts a 1.39 GAA and .789 save percentage with 97 total saves.
