Saints Win Fifth Straight With 3-0 Sweep of UM-Dearborn

AQ records 45 kills and hits season-high .448 in the win

The Aquinas women's volleyball team continued its recent hot streak, earning its fifth consecutive victory – four of those being sweeps – as AQ made quick work of UM-Dearborn on the road on Wednesday night (Nov. 6). Aquinas used an incredible offensive effort to post straight set scores of 25-19, 25-11, and 25-16 and total the 10th sweep of the season.

Since falling to #23 Lawrence Tech in a five-set heartbreaker on Oct. 25 in the Sturrus Center, AQ has won 15 of its last 16 sets. The Saints push their overall record to 16-12, while they stay in the upper portion of the WHAC standings with a 13-6 league mark. AQ sits just one win behind Madonna (14-5), who the Saints will face in Saturday's (Nov. 9) regular season finale.

Aquinas won all six sets against UM-Dearborn this season, as the Wolverines fall to 4-24 overall and 3-16 in conference play.

Offensively, it would be hard for AQ to have been better than it was on Wednesday night. The Saints recorded 45 kills and just six errors for a .448 attack percentage. It was the team's best offensive mark of the season and the highest since Oct. 31, 2018, when the Saints hit .460 in a 3-0 sweep, also against UM-Dearborn.

No Saint player committed more than one hitting error. Maddie Ingraham notched a match-high 12 kills with one error in 26 swings for a .423 hitting percentage, while Jackie Rozell was errorless with 11 kills in 22 swings for an even .500 attack clip. Rozell added a pair of block assists.

Kylie Christensen put down nine kills in 12 swings for a .667 hitting figure, while also tallying two assists. The reigning WHAC Attacker of the Week, Payton Klein recorded eight kills in 16 attempts for a .438 mark. Klein also totaled five digs, three aces, and two blocks assists.

Kali Crawford passed for 32 assists, while Karly Morris picked up 18 digs. Emily Jones led AQ with three block assists and Sam VanHouten added five digs.

The Saints tallied a 45-29 advantage in kills, while also limiting UM-Dearborn to a .163 attack mark. AQ also led in assists (41-27), digs (43-31), aces (6-2), and total blocks (5-1).

On Saturday, Aquinas closes out the regular season against Madonna, as the teams jockey for top seeds in next week's WHAC Tournament. The match begins at 1:00 p.m. and is Senior Day for the three Saints seniors: Ingraham, Morris, and Kenzie Sanders, who will be honored prior to the match.
