Aquinas women's basketball started out strong and never looked back as the team won its second straight game by a score of 64-52 on Saturday afternoon (Dec.14) on the road against Rochester.
The Saints improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in WHAC play while the Warriors fall to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in the WHAC. Aquinas beat Holy Cross in their last game by a 72-58 margin bouncing back from a home loss to Lawrence Tech.
The visitors were a successful 21-of-29 (72.4%) from the free throw line for the game. They shot 20-of-58 (34.5%) overall from the field. AQ had a 42-32 advantage in rebounding including a 12-6 edge in offensive boards and a 30-26 lead in defensive rebounds.
AQ led 16-6 after the first quarter and by a 34-26 margin at the half. The Saints made 75% of their free throws in the first half. The team shot 34.8% in the opening half on 8-of-23 from the field and went 3-9 from the three-point line.
In the second half, the Saints outscored the Warriors 14-8 in the third quarter to lead 48-36 going into the fourth quarter. The game went back and forth in the fourth quarter as the Saints closed out the win.
Marissa Brady led the team with a double-double scoring 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 4-of-5 from the line and adding 10 rebounds. She also had three blocks to lead AQ.
Ally Frederickson had the most rebounds for AQ with 11 and scored four points.
Camaryia Williams finished the game with four steals while adding nine points on 4-of-10 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. She also dished out four assists to lead AQ.
JaKarri Alven scored nine points on 2-of-3 shooting and made 5-of-6 of her free throws.
Keeley Hinton shot 2-of-6 from three-point range and scored seven points with three rebounds.
Daz'Sha Day added seven points and two rebounds while
Destini Lewis scored nine points and grabbed three boards. Lewis had two steals.
Aquinas led in assists by an 8-5 margin. AQ also had advantages in points in the paint (32-26), points off turnovers (23-17), steals (10-8) and bench points (16-13).
AQ continues its road trip on Tuesday, December 17th at 5:00 PM when the team heads to Upland, Indiana to take on Taylor.
