The men's hockey team hosted Eastern Michigan University this weekend for a pair of games at Southsdie Ice Arena as part of "Parents and Family Weekend" for the Saints. Aquinas swept both games, winning 9-0 and 7-0 to improve their record to 10-8 on the season. Aquinas has now won its past eight games, and have posted shutouts in three-straight matchups, outscoring their opponents 23-0 over that time.Â
On Friday night, the Saints posted a 9-0 win, tied for their largest winning margin thus far this season. The Saints exploded for three early goals, taking a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game.
Trent Kulczyk scored the opening tally for AQ before turning around and assisting on
Darren Johnsons' goal to make it 2-0.
Connor Barta and
Kyle Truax had helpers on Kulczyk's goal.
Russell Shengulette made it 3-0 Saints with
Mason Stewart with the helper.
In case the game was in any doubt, the Saints closed the door in the second, scoring five times to expand the lead to 8-0. Kulczyk again opened the scoring, with
Brandon Rozema with the assist. Shengulette scored the next two to give himself a hat-trick on the day.

Max Berry and
Mason Stewart had the helpers on the Shengulette's goals. Truax finished up the scoring for the second with a pair of goals, with Stewart assisting on both.
Darren Johnson and
Alex Klekotka also had assists on the pair of Truax goals to end the second-period. The third period saw just one goal, with
Mike Curran lighting the lamp and Shengulette and
Nick Stockert adding assists. Aquinas outshot the Eagles 50-22 on the night, with goalie
Nick Ottenbacher stopping all 22 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.
The next night the Saints' offense stayed hot, while the defense continued to be rock-solid, leading to a 7-0 AQ victory. Shengulette continued his goal scoring ways, opening the game with a goal at 15:44 in the first, his sixth goal in the past three games.Â
Connor Fuchs and
Mason Stewart had the assists. Truax would score the first of two goals on the night to close the first, a short-handed tally with
Darren Johnson on the assist.
Aquinas blew it open in the second-period once again, scoring three times to grab a 5-0 lead.

Steven Gustafson and Johnson assisting. Gustafson added a power-play tally midway through the period withÂ

Mike Curran score for the second straight night, withÂ
Nick Stockert and
Connor Barta on the helpers. Truax finished the night's scoring with an unassisted goal at 18:34 to make it 7-0.Â
Once again the Saints held a huge advantage in shots, 64-23.
Roman Malkov stopped all 23 Eagle shots he faced for his second-straight shutout.Â
Aquinas travels to Chicagoland this coming weekend for a pair of games with Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday and Saturday to close play in 2019.Â
