Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Doug Seites, Associate Sports Information Director

Women's Hockey Falls to UM-Dearborn 3-1

The women's hockey team hit the ice this afternoon to take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn at Southside Ice Arena. The Saints came up short by a final of 3-1, and fall to 3-9 on the season.

The Saints, playing their first game in three weeks due to a pair of cancelations against the Wolverines, found themselves trailing early when UM-Dearborn struck first at the 7:48 mark in the first period. The visitors doubled their lead four minutes later, and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Saints cut the lead in half thanks to an Amelia Bartels goal at the 5:58 mark. Bartels' second goal of the season was assisted by Avery Martin and Ashley Reese. The Saints continued to chase the Wolverines and tried to claw back into the game, but were unable to find the equalizing goal. The Wolverines put the game away with a goal at 15:05 in the third to make it 3-1, which would prove to be the final score.

The Saints were outshot 57-15 on the afternoon, but goaltender Ally Kennedy made 54 saves in net to keep the Saints close.

Aquinas will close out the 2019 part of their schedule next weekend when they host Robert Morris (Ill.) for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday at Southside Ice Arena.
