AQ Rolls to Road Sweep Over Rochester

Saints sweep Warriors by scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-15

For the second time this week, the Aquinas women's volleyball team swept a team on its home floor, as the Saints notched a 3-0 victory at Rochester on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 28). AQ held the Warriors to a negative hitting percentage and cruised to the victory by straight set scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-15.

The Saints move back to .500 in WHAC play with a 3-3 league tally; AQ is 6-9 on the year overall. Rochester drops to 0-14 on the season and 0-6 in conference action. It was the third road match of the week for Aquinas, which swept both Rochester and Concordia, while nearly upending 11-1 Lawrence Tech in a tough five-set loss on Friday night.

AQ doubled Rochester in total kills (34-17) and hit .244, while limiting the Warriors to a -.128 attack percentage. The Saints also dominated in every other category, including total blocks (13-2), assists (28-13), digs (48-34), and aces (4-0).

Payton Klein and Kylie Christensen led the Aquinas offense with eight kills apiece; Klein notched four total blocks (two solo) and an ace, while Christensen hit .429 and added a pair of rejections. Meredith Kraus supplied seven block assists, four kills, and four digs, while Jackie Rozell tallied five kills and three blocks.

Kali Crawford passed for 25 assists and chipped in eight digs, three kills, and two aces. Karly Morris picked up 14 digs and Sam VanHouten posted six digs. 10 different Saints contributed at least one kill, while 13 AQ players were credited with one or more digs.

Aquinas plays three home matches in four days next week, starting with a Wednesday (Oct. 2) match against UM-Dearborn. Next weekend (Oct. 4-5), the Saints welcome Siena Heights and Lourdes to the Sturrus Center for a pivotal week of WHAC contests.
