Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Doug Seites, Associate Sports Information Director

Saints Men Fall to St. Francis 1-0

The men's soccer team dropped the second game of its Chicago road trip this afternoon, falling 1-0 to St. Francis (Ill.) on a late goal. The Saints are now 1-2-2 on the season.

The Saints and Fighting Saints played a pretty even match, with the home team holding a slight 16-14 advantage in shots but with Aquinas having more shots on goal ( 6 to 5). A physical match with 30 combined fouls, 19 by the home team, seven yellow cards were issued between the two teams.

The Fighting Saints broke the 0-0 deadlock with less than nine minutes remaining when they tapped in a loose ball on the left side of the goal. The Saints would push to try to find the equalizer, but were unable to replicate last nights' late game heroics.

Alberto Teatin led the Saints with four shots on the day, with Bailley Whalley, Franco Calabrese and Mohammed Mustapha each adding two. Goalkeeper Antonio Strassioto continued his strong play on the season, making four saves in five shots on his goal.

The Saints now have 10 days off before they take on cross-town rivals Calvin College on Tuesday, September 17th at 7:00 pm.
