The Aquinas College women's basketball team is on a four-game winning streak following a hard fought 60-55 win over visiting UM-Dearborn this evening at the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center. All four games have come in WHAC play, moving the Saints' record to 9-3 in WHAC play. That keeps the Saints tied for 3rd in the WHAC standings and improves their overall record to 13-8 on the season.
The two teams traded baskets early before the Saints took control, and a four point lead, after the first quarter. After the Saints pushed the lead to 10 points in the second, the visiting Wolverines tightened things up and closed the quarter on a run to find themselves only trailing 30-25 at the break. In the third, the Saints increased their lead to as much as 13, and held a 12-point advantage after three quarters of play. However, the Wolverines used a big run in the fourth to make things interesting. A 14-4 run by the visitors cut the lead to just two for the Saints with 1:42 remaining, and the Saints had to come up with a handful of defensive stops to keep the Wolverines at bay. The Saints iced the game at the free throw stripe and held on for a five point conference victory to sweep the Wolverines this season.
Marissa Brady continued her strong play, leading the Saints with 13 points on the night. She added eight rebounds. Daz'Sha day had 12 points for AQ, including a running buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the third.
JaKarri Alven added eight points off the bench and
Ally Frederickson had seven points and five boards in just 10 minutes of action.
Camaryia Williams pulled down 13 rebounds to go along with four points, three assists and three steals in the win.
The Saints held UM-Dearborn to just 35.7% shooting from the field and out-rebounded the Wolverines 42-29 on the night. Aquinas hits the road this Saturday for a clash with (RV) Lawrence Tech. Tip is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
