Saints Drop Weekend Series to Lakers

The Aquinas College women's hockey team dropped a pair of games to GVSU this weekend, dropping their record to 3-16 on the season.

On Friday night the Saints hit the road to take on the Lakers before falling by a 4-1 final. The Lakers took an early lead just over two minutes into the game, and then used a three-goal second-period to blow the game open. Trailing 4-0, the Saints got on the board with just under three minutes to go when Ashley Reese found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. Morgan Kozar assisted on the play. Goaltender Ally Kennedy made 42 saves on the night.

The Saints hosted the Lakers tonight, looking to rebound and end their losing streak. AQ jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Gabby Fournier scored unassisted just 1:42 into the game. The Lakers would counter a few minutes later, but the teams remained tied heading into the second. Midway through the second, the Saints again took a one-goal lead, with a power-play goal by Morgan Kozar, assisted by Madison Morgrette.

The Lakers would counter just under a minute later to make it 2-2, and found the eventual game-winner at the 7:51 mark in the third on a power-play goal. The Saints were outshot 59-26 on the day, but Ally Kennedy again kept the Saints in the game with a big performance in net, stopping 56 Laker shots.

Aquinas is on the ice again next weekend with a pair of games against Concordia. The Saints defeated the Cardinals earlier this season 8-0.
