Fresh off a highly-successful first semester of action last fall, the Aquinas Esports program has hit the ground running with spring semester competition.
Aquinas Esports' League of Legends team began their spring semester with a run in the Midwest Esports ASUGSV 2020 tournament. This massive competition awards an impressive $10,000 prize to the winning school. A double elimination bracket meant little room for error for the Saints. Unfortunately, their run ended early with a loss against Colorado University in the loser's bracket. Up next for the League of Legends team is a match against Muskingum University on February 1st at 12:00pm.
The Overwatch team began their spring 2020 season with a highly anticipated match against rival Northwood University. The Saints and Timberwolves faced off in the opening weekend of GLEC (Great Lakes Esports Conference) play. In a high-paced game like Overwatch, communication and a fast start are the keys to victory. Unfortunately, the Saints couldn't find their rhythm in the two-map series against Northwood, resulting in a tough loss. Aquinas Overwatch is back in action on February 1st at 11:00 am against Muskingum University.
Before the Aquinas Rocket League team began their spring 2020 GLEC season, Aquinas competed in the official Collegiate Rocket League Qualifiers Tournaments. This highly competitive national tournament, leaves teams with only two chances to stay alive in each double elimination tournament. The teams' first run on January 19th was cut short by a close loss against the University of Pennsylvania in Round 4 of the loser's bracket. On January 26th, the Saints had their second opportunity. Unfortunately, a close match with Towson University ended in defeat for AQ. The Rocket League squad's next match will be to open GLEC play against Muskingum University on February 1st at 9:00 am.
