The women's hockey team dropped a tough CCWHA battle to Davenport last night, falling by a final of 4-3. The loss drops the Saints record to 1-8-1 in conference play and 6-18 overall.
Davenport opened the scoring with a goal at 14:02 in the first, and then doubled the lead to 2-0 at 13:51 in the second period.
Gabby Fournier got the Saints to within one goal at 18:17 in the period. Fournier's fourth goal of the season was unassisted. Unfortunately, the Panthers scored just 13 seconds later to regain the two-goal advantage.
Trailing 3-1 headed into the third-period, the Saints looked to be on the comeback trail when they scored just 4:33 into the period.
Alyssa Buzar found the back of the net for the second time this season, with
Tori Feddema and
Madison Morgrette assisting on the goal. Davenport was able to answer once again, scoring three minutes later to take a 4-2 lead, but the Saints would not give up. Again they trimmed the lead to just one goal at 4-3 after a powerplay goal by
Mikayla Oppermann.
Morgan Kozar and Morgrette had the assits. With just four minutes left and down one, the Saints pressed to find the equalizer, but were unable to get the late goal to send it to overtime. The Panthers held on for the 4-3 win.
Ally Kennedy made 34 saves in net for the Saints on the night.
The Saints host the University of Michigan this Sunday at Southside for Senior Day. Puck drop is set for 2:30 pm. The Saints and Wolverines will battle on Friday night in Ann Arbor at 9:30 pm.
