The men's lacrosse team has announced the addition of Canton, Michigan's Zachary Sweet, who signed his Letter of Intent to join the Saints in Fall 2020 in a Signing Day ceremony at his high school on Wednesday.
Sweet preps at Canton High School, where he earned Team Offensive MVP honors as a junior last season. He was also named All-Conference last spring. Heading into his fourth-year as a varsity player for the Chiefs, Sweet is already a three-time All-Park team honoree. He helped Canton HS win a Regional Championship as a junior in 2017. Zach has played football for over ten years, including time on the Canton varsity football team. He has played travel lacrosse for some of the top teams in the Midwest, including Team Total, Juiced Cherries, and Premier Lacrosse Group (PLG), as well as for Long Island Sting. He helped PLG to a championship-filled summer season in 2019, and also plays for the PLG Box Lacrosse team that recently won the Lax in the Zoo Tournament.
"Zach is a student-athlete who can make an early impact for us on offense," said head coach
Doug Seites. "He's a lefty attackman with great offensive awareness who can score in a variety of ways. I'm excited for the positive impact Zach will make at Aquinas, both on the field and in the classroom and community." Added assistant coach
Stephen Treppa, "Obviously Zach jumps out to you as an extremely talented player, but what really got me interested was seeing him interact with his teammates and learning that he has a passions for coaching youth lacrosse and being active in his community. That's when I knew he was the right fit for us at AQ."
"I chose Aquinas because of how close of a relationship it felt like all the faculty had with the students and family atmosphere," said Sweet. "On the lacrosse aspect when I visited the guys welcomed me with open arms and they felt like such a close group of guys who always had each other's backs. In my four years I'm excited to grow relationships that can help me in the workforce and hopefully do something special with my teammates on the lacrosse field." He will study Computer Information Systems at Aquinas College.
