The women's hockey team saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a tough overtime loss to Penn State yesterday at Southside Ice Arena. The loss drops the Saints' record to 6-17 on the season.
The visiting Nittany Lions struck first with a goal at the 5:47 mark in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Penn State held the lead heading into the lockerroom for the first intermission. The Saints tied things up at 4:12 in the second when
Tori Feddema found the back of the net after a pass from
Natalie Vaitas, who earned an assist on the play. Just like Friday night, the two teams played a tough, scoreless third-period, but with the score still knotted-up at 1-1, it meant overtime.
Unfortunately for the Saints, the Nittany Lions were able to solve
Ally Kennedy with just 1:47 left in the overtime to take home the victory. The Saints outshot their guest 48-26 on the day, with Kennedy making 24 saves. Neither team was able to convert on the power-play, with the Saints finishing 0-7 and Penn State going 0-5.
Aquinas returns to the ice on Wednesday when they host Davenport at Southside Ice Arena for a 9:30 pm puck drop.Â
