The men's lacrosse team swept the WHAC's weekly Player of the Week awards today, with
Gabe Schmader winning WHAC Defensive Player of the Week and
Walker West winning WHAC Offensive Player of the week.
Schmader, a freshman, got his first start for the Saints at the faceoff-x against Tennessee Wesleyan and took his first career collegiate faceoffs. He finished the day winning 16 of 24 faceoffs (67%) and picking up a groundball in the Saints' 14-9 win over the Bulldogs.
West, a senior attackman, scored a career-high six goals while adding an assist for a seven point day. West had a hand in half of the Saints' 14 goals in the road victory and played a major role in the Saints' coming back from a 2-0 deficit, and also in their third-quarter 6-1 run to put the game away.
This is the first WHAC Player of the Week award for both Schmader and West. They and the rest of the Saints are back in action Tuesday in a Top-10 showdown with the University of the Cumberlands at 8:00 pm.
