We recently started a new series called "Getting AQuainted With…" as a way for our fans to get to know our Aquinas head coaches on a few professional topics and through some more light-hearted questions.
Name: Jordan Permoda
Hometown: Wayland, Michigan
Alma Mater / Year / Major: Davenport University / 2012 / Business Admin & marketing
What is your favorite thing about being a head coach at Aquinas?I love being involved with the game that gave me so much as a youth. At AQ I get to work with really quality young men, and help them develop their game, but more importantly I get to watch them transition from student-athletes into graduates and then professionals in their daily lives.
What is your top memory from your time at AQ? The National Championship in 2017 was an incredible experience. Seeing our players hard work culminate in a championship is an unmatched feeling. However, the early years when we were building the program are some of my fondest memories. Learning about Aquinas, and developing as a recruiter in our first 3-4 years of existence was so much fun.
Your favorite:
Musical artist/band? Blink 182 when I was a youngster - but now I listen to pretty much anything with a guitar and drum set.
Movie? Top Gun
TV Show? Band of Brothers
Book? The Boys in the Boat
Meal? Spaghetti and meatballs
Restaurant? Anything with decent pizza and a bar.
Sports team (non AQ)? Colorado Avalanche (NHL)
What have you been watching during quarantine? Mostly DIY Videos on YouTube. "How to Lay pipe" - With all the rain recently, we've had a leaky basement so I've had to dig some trenches around the house and lay drain pipe. It's a muddy job - but gratifying to pull off a big project on your own.
What is your hidden talent? I can play the guitar - I was in a punk band in high school. We were terrible.
If you could go on vacation anywhere and price was not a factor, where would you go? Any south pacific island with a bar and a beach.
What would you be if you weren't a coach? Sailing around the world. Literally.
What is/would be your go-to karaoke song? Something by Counting Crows.
What was your first job? Sophomore in high school - delivering delicious pizza pies in my mini-van
Who is the most famous person you've met? Kevin VanDam - Pro bass fisherman. Sat next to me at a bar in Plainwell once. Or maybe Scotty Bowman - Most winningest head coach in NHL history (9 cups). It's a toss-up between those two I'd say.
If resources and time weren't factors, what would you like to cross off your bucket list? Circumnavigation.
