The Aquinas men's hockey team had a quick rematch with top-ranked Adrian on Saturday night (Jan. 31) at Southside Ice Arena after AQ's season-opening 4-1 road loss to the Bulldogs on Thursday night (Jan. 29). Though the Saints scored just 20 seconds into Saturday's game, Adrian would take over from there and earn the 8-1 victory.
Ryan Wolfe started the scoring early on Saturday, taking a feed from Kyle Truax to put AQ in front 1-0 just 20 seconds into the first period. Adrian would knot the score at 1-1 two minutes later and take a 2-1 advantage at the 3:28 mark with a goal. It was 2-1 after the opening 20 minutes.
The perennial power Bulldogs netted three goals in both the second and third periods – with three of those tallies coming on the power play – to complete the game's scoring. Balanced scoring saw six Adrian players score in the win.
Goalkeeper Roman Malkov stopped 39 Adrian shots in net for the Saints.
Adrian improves to 6-0 on the season, with the Saints drop to 0-2 overall. AQ begins WHAC play next weekend (Feb. 5-6) in a home-and-home series against Cleary. The opener is on Friday (Feb. 5) at 7:00 p.m. in Howell, Mich. before Saturday's (Feb. 6) rematch at Southside Ice Arena at 8:00 p.m.
