Aquinas Takes Down Rochester in WHAC Road Matchup

The Saints shutout the Warriors 2-0 on their home turf with Joshua Clemitson and Ricardo Rittersberger scoring

The Aquinas men's soccer team netted a shutout win over Rochester on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 13). The Saints defeated the Warriors 2-0 at the Ultimate Soccer Arena, extending their shutout streak to 315 minutes which extends back to the 65th minute against Indiana Tech.

The Saints' overall record improves to 3-4-2 with a WHAC record of 3-1-1 after the win, while the Warriors' record drops to 5-6-1 and 2-3-1 in the WHAC in the loss.

In the 22nd minute, it was Joshua Clemitson who gave the Saints the 1-0 advantage after scoring his first collegiate goal. The eventual game-winning goal was assisted by Fin Pittock as AQ took the one goal lead into halftime after narrowly outshooting RU 5-4.

Aquinas added an insurance goal in the 71st minute as Ricardo Rittersberger scored his first goal of the season coming off the bench. Pittock assisted on the goal for the second time and now leads the team with seven points, while also being tied for the team lead with three assists on the season. 

Jared Ireland (2-0-1) extended his shutout streak to 290 minutes in the win and has not allowed a goal in his three starts yet after collecting four saves. Wyatt Chunn took the loss in net for RU after making two saves and allowing two goals.

Aquinas outshot Rochester 8-7 over the course of the game as both teams recorded four shots on net. Each team also had two attempts at a corner kick, while the Saints committed 12 fouls to the Warriors' 11.

Aquinas will continue WHAC play by hosting UNOH on Saturday (Oct. 16) at the AQ Athletic Field, with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 PM.
