Aquinas Drops WHAC Home Matchup to UNOH

The Aquinas men's soccer team came up short against UNOH on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 16). The Saints conceded their first goal in 392 minutes of play when the Racers scored their first goal on the way to the 2-0 defeat at the AQ Athletic Field.

The Saints' overall record drops to 3-5-2 with a WHAC record of 3-2-1 after the loss, while the Racers' record improves to 5-5-2 and 4-1-1 in the WHAC in the win. Aquinas is currently sitting in fifth in the conference.

The first half went scoreless in a defensive battle as the shots were even at three. There were also a total of 14 fouls called in the first 45 minutes with nine going to the Saints and five going to the Racers.

It wasn't until the 77th minute when UNOH got on the board as Nic Baigrie capitalized on a ball that slipped through Antonio Strassioto's hands right in front of the net. The deficit doubled in the 84th minute when Cameron Power converted on a free kick outside of the box. The Saints were unable to get any offense going, especially going down a man right before the second goal due to two yellow cards.

Strassioto (1-5-1) was unable to secure a win in his first game back in net in a couple of weeks, finishing with one save and two goals allowed. Rafael Lima earned the shutout victory for the Racers after collecting five saves and not allowing a goal.

Aquinas was outshot by UNOH 10-8 through 90 minutes of action, but it was AQ that held the 5-3 advantage in shots on net. AQ also held the advantage in corner kicks 6-3, while the Saints committed 14 fouls to the Racers' 18.

Aquinas will continue WHAC play by traveling to UM-Dearborn on Wednesday (Oct. 20) in Dearborn, Michigan, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
