The Aquinas women's hockey team gained an impressive season-opening 4-1 victory at Southside Ice Arena. AQ had four different Saints find the back of the net through the three periods in Friday's competition.
With the win, AQ is 1-0 in the new season and Concordia drops to 1-2 overall.
The Saints netted two goals in the first period. Sophomore
Anna Castle, netted the first goal for AQ at 10:51 mark when she was assisted by Freshman
Lauryn Wood. The next goal from
Kylie Rancilio assisted by
Gina Marzolo and
Lauren Tulloch at 7:42.
The 3-0 lead came from
Olivia Menard who netted a goal at 13:50 in the second period. The assists came from
Alyssa Exline and Julia Dehondt on Mennard's goal. The Comets scored their loan goal at 2:08 to end the second period.Â
The final goal of the game came from Sophomore Forward
Jenna Blackwell. She was assisted by
Olivia Menard and
Jenna Hausman to score with 1:12 left in the game
In net, freshman Lauren Pointon allowed just one goals on the 25 shots she faced. She recorded 24 saves to earn the victory.
The teams will meet again on Saturday (October 16) at Concordia with a 9:30 P.M. puck drop between the Saints and Comets.
