The AQ women's volleyball team traveled down to Fort Wayne, Indiana today (Oct. 15) to take on (RV) Indiana Tech. Aquinas pulled away from Indiana Tech early, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21. The Warriors tried to rally back, winning the third set by a score of 25-20. However, the rally ended in the fourth set when the Saints came back with a set victory of 25-17, winning the match by a score of 3-1. AQ's record now sits at 15-11 with a WHAC record of 6-5.
Aquinas remains in sixth place in the WHAC standings as they attempt to make a late season run.
The Saints topped to Warriors in almost all statistical categories, leading in kills (55-43), hitting percentage (.240-.101), assists (54-41), digs (71-62), and blocks (20-7). The Saints and the Warriors both had five service aces.
Meredith Kraus led the team in kills with 16 (.209).
Jackie Rozell and
Abbie Harpenau also put in double-digit kills with 12 (.357) and 10 (.192), respectively. Kraus assisted in all areas of the game with six digs and five block assists. Rozell and Harpenau each had four kills and a combined four block assists.
Adrien Yondo had another massive game defensively, putting in 22 digs over four sets. That comes out to an average of 5.5 digs per set.
Chloe Mitchell had a fantastic game as the setter, averaging 11 assists per set (44 total), along with contributing 12 digs in the winning effort.
The Saints will be finishing out their busy week tomorrow (Oct. 16) with a double header against the UNOH Racers in Ohio. The matches are set to start at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
