The Saints travelled down to play two matches today (Oct. 16) at The Garage in Lima, Ohio against the UNOH Racers. The Saints could not be slowed down as they won six-straight sets for back-to-back sweeps against their WHAC opponent. Aquinas won by 48 combined points over the 6 sets. Aquinas now improves its record to 17-11 and its WHAC record to 8-5.
AQ won the first match by set scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-18. The Saints cruised past UNOH in similar fashion in the second match by set scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-17. It was an impressive performance to cap off a week where the Saints went 4-1.
In the first match, AQ held a massive advantage in all statistical categories, leading in kills (37-23), hitting percentage (.228-.000), assists (34-23), aces (7-5), digs (48-42), and blocks (8-5).
Meredith Kraus once again led the team in kills with 11 (.360). Not only was Kraus a menace on offense, but she also tallied 10 digs in the winning effort.
Jackie Rozell was second on the team with nine kills (.111) while adding a dig and a solo block.
Both
Abbi Perkins and
Emily Jones were dominant defensively, knocking the ball down with three solo blocks a piece. Jones added six kills (.357) offensively and Perkins added five kills (.286).
Chloe Mitchell played well from the setter position, providing the Saints with 28 assists. Mitchell was another do-it-all force for AQ, adding a kill, three service aces, eight digs, and a solo block to the winning effort.
In the second match, the Saints dominated all statistical categories again, leading in kills (36-24), hitting percentage (.236-.098), aces (6-2), and total blocks (7-2). The Racers beat out the Saints in assists (34-32) and digs (51-44).
Kraus once again was the team leader in kills with 10 (.235). Kraus also added an assist, eight digs, and a solo block in the winning effort, capping off a great three match stretch.
Mitchell did a little bit of everything in the second match, putting in 25 assists, three kills (1.000), one ace, six digs, and two solo blocks.
Adrien Yondo had an impressive defensive effort in the sweep, totaling 15 digs in just three sets. Additionally, Yondo added three assists in the sweep.
The Saints continue their road campaign this upcoming Wednesday (Oct. 20) with a road matchup against Cornerstone.
