#12 Aquinas Tops UNOH 4-0, Crum Scores 50th Career Goal

The Saints cruise past the Racers, who were receiving votes in the top-25 poll, with four different players scoring

The #12 Aquinas women's soccer team earned a big WHAC victory over UNOH on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 16). The Saints went on to win by the score of 4-0 at the AQ Athletic Field with four different Saints scoring and now sit in a tie for first in the WHAC with Madonna.

Aquinas' overall record improves to 12-1-1 on the season with a 5-1-0 home record plus a 6-0-1 WHAC record, while UNOH's record drops to 8-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the WHAC.

The first of three first half goals was scored by Merin McDermott on a header from a corner kick in the 26th minute. Hannah Crum sent the kick into the box as America Lemus flicked the ball over to McDermott from her head as both players received an assist on McDermott's seventh goal of the season. Less than a minute later the lead was extended to two as Sydney Shenk scored on a ball that was sent into the box by Jenna Konwerski. It was Crum's turn to score in the 41st minute as Ariana Garcia tapped a free kick over to Crum as she bent the shot over the wall for the goal. Crum and Shenk are now tied for the team lead in goals with 10 on the season.

The lone goal of the second half came off the foot of Katelyn Kahael in the 75th minute. Marie-Louise Abild sent a through ball from midfield up to Kahael as she ripped a shot from just outside the box and bent it into the near top corner of the net for her second goal of the season.

The goal scored by Crum in the first half was her 50th goal scored in her career. This goal builds on top of career records that Crum already holds including becoming the top point getter in Aquinas history last season, passing Amy Panse as the leading goal scorer in program history early this season, and also passing Jessica Greaney as the leading assist collector early this season.

Tairyn Webb (8-1-0) captured the win in her return to net, but did not have to make a save as the only two shot UNOH took were off target. Martina Galloni collected eight saves in the loss for the Racers after allowing four goals.

The Saints took 21 total shots with 14 being on net, while the Racers could only get two shots off with neither being on target. AQ had 10 attempts at a corner kick and did not give UNOH an opportunity to try one, while Aquinas committed 16 fouls to UNOH's nine.

Aquinas will continue WHAC play at home by hosting UM-Dearborn at the AQ Athletic Field on Wednesday (Oct. 20), with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
