Aquinas Wins Second Consecutive WHAC Match over Lawrence Tech

The Saints improve to 2-2 in WHAC play as they defeat the Blue Devils 3-1

The Aquinas women's volleyball team won its road match over Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 2). The Saints won the first two sets, but after dropping the third set they stormed back to take the fourth set and the match over Lawrence Tech 3-1 in the Don Ridler Field House.

Aquinas now has an overall record of 11-8 after the win and have won two consecutive WHAC matches to improve to 3-2 after the final match score of 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, and 25-23.

All four sets were tightly contested with all of them being determined by four points or less. Aquinas led Lawrence Tech in most statistical categories including kills (65-52), assists (59-42), digs (71-63), and hitting percentage (.263-.186). The Blue Devils held an advantage in the category of blocks (7-6), while both teams were able to garner four aces.

A day after reaching the 1,000 career kills milestone, Jackie Rozell was dominant over LTU by gaining 18 more kills on a .317 hitting percentage and posting a season-high 17 digs. Meredith Kraus also had a big day at the net, finishing with 15 kills to go along with a .389 hitting percentage. Emily Jones also posted double digits kills with 10, while Abbie Harpenau had nine and Abbi Perkins had six kills and a team high five blocks.

Cassie Sustrich dished out 44 assists for the Saints with only two setting errors and also contributed seven digs. Adrien Yondo returned to the court for AQ and had 15 digs with Kenzi Dobosiewicz coming in just behind her with 14 digs.

Aquinas will continue WHAC play as they host UM-Dearborn on Tuesday (Oct.6) in Sturrus Center at 7:00 PM.
