Aquinas Sweeps UM-Dearborn in Dominant Fashion

The Saints won all three sets by at least five points as Emily Jones led the way with 10 kills

The Aquinas women's volleyball team won the rescheduled home match over UM-Dearborn on Tuesday evening (Oct. 5). The Saints won all three sets by six, six, and five points respectfully to sweep the Wolverines 3-0 at Sturrus Center.

Aquinas now has an overall record of 12-8 after the win and have upped its WHAC win streak to three straight matches to improve to 4-2. The final match scores over UM-Dearborn were 25-19, 25-19, and 25-20.

The Saints had runs in all three sets of at least six points to distance themselves from the Wolverines. AQ led UMD in every statistical category including kills (31-29), hitting percentage (.181-.031), assists (31-26), digs (33-30), total blocks (24-14), and aces (9-7).

Emily Jones was the leading offensive force for the Saints as she tallied a team high 10 kills on a .381 hitting percentage, while also adding six block assists plus a solo block on the defensive end. Jackie Rozell also contributed seven kills along with four digs and three aces. Abbi Perkins finished with five kills as Abbie Harpenau and Meredith Kraus also had four a piece.

Cassie Sustrich totaled 27 of the 31 assists for the Saints and also had six digs and four block assists. Kenzi Dobosiewicz led the team with eight digs with Jordyn Carlyle garnering seven digs and Jennifer Johnson contributed five. Harpenau was second behind Jones for blocks with six and Perkins had five block assists as well. 

Aquinas will continue WHAC play as they travel to Sylvania, Ohio to face Lourdes on Wednesday (Oct. 7), with first serve scheduled for 7:00 PM.
