Aquinas Pick Up Another Impressive 3-1 Victory at Home

The Saints topped Siena Heights by a score of 3-1 to improve to 5th in the WHAC standings

The Saints women's volleyball squad played their second match of the weekend this afternoon (Oct. 23) against the Siena Heights Saints. The match started off with an exciting first period. Siena Heights took the lead early and held onto that lead for a majority of the first set. However, AQ rallied late, bringing the score to 24-24 before Emily Jones came up with a huge block and a spike to end the first set 26-24.

AQ had an improved second set, vastly cutting down on the number of errors that the team had in the first set. The improved efficiency led to a 25-16 win in the second set.

The Siena Heights Saints pulled a 7-1 lead early off the serve of Aubrey Bates. Siena Heights held that lead throughout the entirety of the third set, winning 25-16.

Aquinas turned the tables back on Siena Heights in the fourth set, holding a three-to-five-point lead until AQ pulled away at the end, winning by a set score of 25-17. Jackie Rozell, Abbi Perkins, and Meredith Kraus all contributed five kills in the fourth and final set as Siena Heights could not slow down AQ's attack.

The Saints now sit at 19-12 overall with a 10-6 WHAC record after two big WHAC victories yesterday and today. Aquinas now moves into fifth place on the WHAC leaderboard.

AQ added eight total blocks over four sets as the Saints currently sit at number one in the nation in total blocks and total blocks per set as a team.

Aquinas led in nearly all statistical categories over Siena Heights, leading in kills (53-42), hitting percentage (.265-.153), assists (46-41), service aces (10-9), and total blocks (8-3). The teams were tied in digs at 71 apiece.

Kraus was number one on the team for the seventh-straight match with 12 kills (.233), along with eight digs and a block assist. Perkins and Rozell followed right behind Kraus with 11 kills (.296) and 10 kills (.350), respectively. Perkins added three aces, a solo block, and a block assist to the winning effort. Rozell contributed a pair of digs and a pair of block assists to the win.

Kenzi Dobosiewicz added a little bit of everything to the win, tallying six kills (.429), an ace, 14 digs, and a block assist. Chloe Mitchell also did her typical do-it-all contribution, contributing 42 assists, a pair of kills (.250), three aces, 11 digs, and a block assist.

Adrien Yondo continued to be a defensive menace with 25 digs over the four sets, good for six digs per set.

The Saints will be back in action this upcoming Wednesday (Oct. 27) at Madonna for another important WHAC matchup with just four games remaining on the regular season schedule.
