The Saints women's volleyball squad traveled to Livonia, Michigan tonight (Oct. 27) to take on Madonna, who is currently sitting at the top of the WHAC conference. The match started off strong for the Saints in the first set, as AQ pulled off a win in the first set by a score of 25-22. However, the tides turned in the second set as Madonna pulled off an early 8-4 lead and took that momentum to a 25-15 second set, bringing the match to 1-1.
Aquinas couldn't stop the momentum that Madonna picked up in the second set, as the Crusaders picked up wins in the third and fourth set by scores of 25-19 and 25-15, respectively. The 3-1 result in favor of Madonna brings AQ's record to 19-13 with a WHAC record of 10-7. The Saints still remain in fifth place in the standings after tonight's match.
Madonna cruised past Aquinas in nearly all statistical categories, leading in kills (48 to 32), hitting percentage (.220 to -.006), assists (40 to 26), digs (80-55), and total blocks (8 to 7). AQ edged out Madonna in service aces (9 to 8).
Jackie Rozell was the leader in kills for the Saints with 13 (.128) while also adding four digs on the defensive side of the ball.
Emily Jones had the most blocks on the team with five block assists (2.5 total). Jones added four kills on 15 attempts over the course of the match.
Adrien Yondo had the most digs for the Saints with 17 while adding two assists.
AQ is back in action on Friday (Oct. 29) as they take on Lawrence Tech at 7:00 PM in the Sturrus Center.
