#11 Aquinas Captures WHAC Regular Season Title in Win over Siena Heights

AQ has won back-to-back regular season titles as Macy Hollingsworth converts on a penalty kick in the 1-0 shutout

The #11 Aquinas women's soccer team took care of business against Siena Heights on Wednesday evening (Oct. 30) in Adrian, Michigan. AQ has now won five games in a row and have not lost a game since Sept. 18 against then-#7 Marian after the 1-0 victory in the battle of the Saints.

Aquinas' overall record improves to 15-1-1 on the season with a 9-0-1 WHAC record, while Siena Heights' record drops to 11-4-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the WHAC. AQ has now clinched the WHAC regular season championship and the #1 seed in the WHAC tournament as there is now a five point cushion between Aquinas and UNOH with one game remaining for both teams. AQ has now won back-to-back regular season titles as head coach Lewis Robinson has taken a team that went to 7-9-1 in his first season to the 11th best team in the country this season so far. The program has now won five WHAC regular season titles with the others coming in the years of 1996, 2007, 2011, and 2020.

In a game without a lot of scoring, there was only nine total shot taken in the first half with Aquinas collecting five of them. The defensive battle saw the first half end tied 0-0 with each team recording one shot on net.

The 57th minute is when Macy Hollingsworth scored the lone goal of the game for her fifth goal of the season. Siena Heights was called for a penalty in the box as Hollingsworth stepped up and drilled the goal into the top right hand corner of the net. The defense held strong like it had done all game to keep the opponent off the scoreboard for the eighth time this season.

Tairyn Webb (11-1-0) recorded her third solo shutout of the season and made the save against the only SHU shot on net. Kara Bishop made four saves in the loss for Siena Heights after giving up the one goal.

Aquinas took 11 total shots with five being on net as Siena Heights attempted five shots with one of them being on net. AQ had one attempt at a corner kick compared to SHU's two, while Aquinas committed five fouls to Siena Heights' seven.

Aquinas will wrap up the regular season against Concordia with senior day at the AQ Athletic Field on Saturday (Oct. 30), with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 PM.
