The Saints women's volleyball team travelled to Adrian, Michigan to take on Siena Heights tonight (Oct. 8). Aquinas picked up a win in their first set by a score of 25-18, extending its set win streak to eight. However, Siena Heights rallied in the second set to bring the match even at 1-1. AQ was unable to pick the momentum back up, dropping the third and fourth sets as well, resulting in a 3-1 loss for the Saints. The set scores of the match were 25-18, 20-25, 21-25, and 21-25.
This match result brings Aquinas' overall record to 13-9 and its conference record to 5-3. AQ now sits in fifth place on the WHAC leaderboard, trailing Indiana Tech (9-1), Madonna (7-2), Cornerstone (7-2), and Siena Heights (6-2).
Despite losing, the Saints led Siena Heights in most statistical categories. Aquinas was ahead in kills (51-49), hitting percentage (.227-.221) assists (45-40), aces (9-6), and total blocks (15-6). Siena Heights only led the Saints in digs (63-59).
Meredith Kraus was the team leader in kills Friday night with 14 (.303). Kraus added a block assist and five digs in the effort. Seniors
Jackie Rozell and
Emily Jones also eclipsed the 10-kill mark with 13 kills (.200) and 11 kills (.292), respectively. Jones had another solid match with two block assists and a solo block. Rozell had two block assists herself and six digs.
Jordyn Carlyle has a whopping seven service aces in tonight's match. Additionally, Carlyle added seven digs.
Adrien Yondo added 17 more digs to her career total, bringing the total number to 969. She is now just 31 digs away from the 1,000-dig mark.
Cassie Sustrich had another solid match as the setter. Sustrich had 39 assists, averaging nearly 10 assists per set. Sustrich also added two kills, an ace, nine digs, and two block assists, giving the Saints a boost in all areas of the game.
Aquinas will play its fourth and final match of the week tomorrow (Oct. 9) at home against Madonna. The match will be held in the Sturrus Center at 1:00 PM.
