Aquinas and Lourdes Play to Scoreless Draw

The defensive battle saw only four shots on goal total in the 0-0 tie

The Aquinas men's soccer team finished in a scoreless tie against Lourdes on Saturday evening (Oct. 9). The Saints and the Gray Wolves locked into a defensive battle that had four total shots on goal in the 0-0 double overtime game at the Wildcats Field.

The Saints' overall record now stands at 2-4-2 with a WHAC record of 2-1-1, while the Gray Wolves' record is 6-4-1 and 1-2-1 in the WHAC after the tie.

In the first half, Lourdes recorded three total shots compared to Aquinas' two, but the second half saw the Saints outshoot the Gray Wolves 9-4. The remaining 20 minutes had LU shooting three more times with AQ shooting twice.

All three of the shots on goal recorded by the Saints came in the second half with Andrea Ghiggini, Theo Maye, and Fin Pittock all testing the Lourdes goalkeeper. The lone Gray Wolves shot on goal did not come until the second overtime.

Jared Ireland (1-0-1) extended his shutout streak to 200 minutes over the past two games and made the one save tonight. Igor Silva made three saves in net for Lourdes.

Aquinas outshot Lourdes 13-10 over the course of the game as the Saints also led in shots on goal 3-1. AQ had six attempts at a corner kick with LU attempting three, while the Saints committed 19 fouls to the Gray Wolves' 21 in a physical game that also saw seven total yellow cards for both teams.

Aquinas will continue WHAC play by traveling to Rochester Hills, Michigan to face Rochester on Wednesday (Oct. 13), with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
