The #12 Aquinas women's soccer team played to a tie against Lourdes on Saturday evening (Oct. 9). Traveling to the Wildcats Field, the Saints' five game winning streak was snapped with the draw as the game with the Gray Wolves finished 1-1 after two overtime periods.
Aquinas' overall record now stands at 10-1-1 on the season with a 7-0-1 road record plus a 4-0-1 WHAC record, while Lourdes' record now stands at 6-1-5 overall and 3-0-2 in the WHAC.
It was the Gray Wolves who drew first blood today, scoring in the seventh minute of the game with the goal coming from Abigail Mann. Less than a minute later the Saints answered with
Hannah Crum netting her ninth goal of the season, which continues to lead AQ. Crum converted on a penalty kick after Lourdes committed a foul in the box. Crum has tallied at least one point in 11 of the 12 contests this season, including scoring a goal four out of the last five times on the pitch.
With all the scoring happening in the first eight minutes, that means the next 102 minutes did not see a goal scored that led to the draw. AQ has five shots on goal in the second half, but the LU goalkeeper was a wall in net. Neither team registered a shot on frame in the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Ariana Garcia led the team with eight shots (three on goal) with
Laia Cunill contributing five shots (one on goal) off the bench and Crum finishing with four of her five shots on target.
Braeleigh McCoy (3-0-1) made one save on the day and allowed the one goal against. Emmy Rodger collected 11 saves through the 110 minutes played and conceded one goal.
The Saints took 29 total shots with 12 being on target, while the Gray Wolves finished with seven total shots and two of them being on net. AQ had 11 attempts at a corner kick and did not let LU have an opportunity for one, while Aquinas committed 14 fouls to the Lourdes' 12.
Aquinas will return home to continue WHAC play while facing Rochester on Wednesday (Oct. 13) at the AQ Athletic Field, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
