Saints Pick Up Sixth Win in Seven Games With a Dominant Performance Against Dearborn

Marissa Brady adds another double-double to the stat column as Aquinas cruises past the Wolverines

The AQ women's basketball team picked up its second win in just as many days this afternoon (Nov. 20). Marissa Brady had yet another dominant game for the Saints, shooting 10-19 from the field and putting up 21 points. Not only was she a menace on offense, but she also picked up 16 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals defensively.

Aquinas now sits at 7-3 with a 3-1 WHAC conference record. The Saints have now won six of their last seven games, including a 3-1 record in the past week.

Aquinas jumped out to an early lead with a 9-0 run to start the first quarter. The Saints were able to maintain that lead throughout the entirety of the quarter, with the final score of the quarter ending at 14-7. The second quarter started out similarly, with AQ jumping out to as much as a ten-point lead midway through the second. However, the Wolverines made a run at the end of the quarter, cutting the deficit to just one point as both teams entered the locker rooms with the score at 23-22 in favor of Aquinas.

That would be the closest that the game would get, as the Saints quickly increased the lead to 13 in just five minutes. That lead increase to as much as 16 points in the third quarter, but UM-Dearborn would go on a 7-1 run to end the quarter. The third quarter ended with a score of 45-35.

AQ blew the doors open in the fourth quarter, dropping 25 points. The massive offensive outbreak would be the end of any comeback chance for UM-Dearborn, as the game would end with a score of 70-53.

Aquinas had an excellent night from the field, shooting 25-52 for a 48.2% shooting percentage. AQ shot 6-15 from three and had a solid night from the free throw line, going 14-20. UM-Dearborn was held to just a 28.4% shooting percentage, shooting just 19-67. The Wolverines were 5-21 from beyond the arc and 10-16 from the free throw line.

After this afternoon's performance was Brady's fifth double-double of the season. Six other Saints contributed to the scoring column tonight, with Mauriya Barnes scoring 13 points and Daz'Sha Day scoring 12. Jordyn Wigg led the team in assists again with five along with four rebounds. Jayda Smith had herself a solid game as well, scoring eight points with a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line.

Aquinas topped Dearborn in assists (17-8) and blocks (7-0). Dearborn was a little better in a couple of other statistical departments, leading Aquinas in steals (7-6) and turnovers (13-17). Both teams ended the game with 39 rebounds. AQ had a whopping 36 points in the paint to the Wolverine's 22. The Saints' bench played very well, scoring 27 points to Dearborn's 17.

The Saints will be back on the court in just a couple days, as they take on Indiana Tech on Tuesday Night (Nov. 23). The game is set to begin at 5:30 at the Sturrus Center.
