The Saints women's basketball team took on the #9 Indiana Tech Warriors tonight (Nov. 23) in a big WHAC conference matchup inside the Sturrus Center. AQ stumbled against the Warriors, falling 68-47. The result puts the Saints' record at 7-4 on the season with a 3-2 WHAC record.
The first quarter started off with Aquinas jumping out to a 5-0 lead off a bucket from
Marissa Brady and a three-pointer from
Brighton Miller. The teams fought back-and-forth for the first half of the quarter, before IT went on a 9-0 run towards the end of the quarter, leading AQ 14-9. Aquinas would get a few points back, but Indiana Tech would go on another small run to end the quarter at 20-12.
The second quarter started the same way the first quarter ended, with the Warriors going on a small run. Both teams would keep the scoring fairly even, with Indiana Tech increasing its lead to 35-23 by the end of the half. Brady was the primary offensive and defensive factor for Aquinas, scoring nine points, grabbing eight boards, and picking up four blocks in the first half. Miller was 2-3 from beyond the arc, scoring six points in the first half.
The second half did not go as well for Aquinas, as Indiana Tech outscored AQ 22-9 in the third quarter. The third quarter gave IT a commanding 57-32 lead. Aquinas outscored Indiana Tech by a total of 15-11 in the fourth and final quarter, but it was too little too late.
The Warriors topped the Saints in most statistical categories, leading in field goal percentage (44.1%-33.9%), three-pointers made (4-3), free throws made (12-4), and assists (13-12). AQ held a lead in rebounds (40-38) and blocks (5-3).
Brady ended the game with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She also had two assists, two steals, and five blocks.
Miller scored eight points tonight, converting 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. She also contributed two boards and two assists.
Maddie Sermak played well off the bench, scoring six points on a 75% field goal percentage (3-for-4). Sermak added four rebounds and an assist in the effort.
Daz'Sha Day and
Alexis Thomas chipped in four points apiece.
The Saints will be back in action on December 1st on the road to take on UNOH. The game is set to start at 5:30 PM.
