The Aquinas women's volleyball team traveled to Lima, Ohio for a big WHAC contest on Tuesday night (Feb. 16) to face the Racers of UNOH. The Racers didn't have an answer for AQ's strong offensive presence as the Saints grabbed the win by a 3-0 score.
Aquinas had strong pushes in every set to distance themselves from UNOH to earn the win by scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-15. The sweep advances the Saints to a 7-1 overall record and 3-1 WHAC record. The loss moves UNOH to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The Saints led in every category in tonight's contest totaling 29 kills to UNOH's 18 count. Aquinas hit .304 as a team while the Racers recorded a -.055 average. AQ also led in service aces (6-1) and dished out 27 total assists to that of 17 for UNOH.
AQ was also strong defensively as well as the Saints tallied 43 total digs. The Racers totaled 30 digs as a team. Aquinas also edged out UNOH in blocks, 4-1.
Aquinas was led by Jackie Rozell who tallied 10 kills on no errors, recording a .526 average. Rozell also contributed seven digs and two service aces. Payton Klein notched five kills and added eight digs and three service aces.
Kali Crawford dished out 13 assists, helping her team to that .304 average. Crawford also finished with four kills and four digs. Adrien Yondo tallied nine digs for the Saints. Emily Jones ended the night with three kills and three block assists. Freshman Chloe Mitchell dished out five assists of her own and added four digs.
The Saints return to the court Friday (Feb. 19) as AQ hosts Concordia in another WHAC showdown. The match against the Cardinals is set to start at 7:00 PM in the Sturrus Center.
