The Aquinas women's volleyball team hosted Concordia inside the Sturrus Center on Friday night (Feb. 19) in a big WHAC matchup. Despite the Cardinals taking the first set, the Saints battled back and earned the win in four sets by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-18.
Aquinas started the match by hitting .196 in the first set, while Concordia hit for a .234 average. The Saints and the Cardinals each had 15 kills in the first, but Concordia rattled off the last three points of the game earning the win in set one.
AQ led the rest of the way, outperforming Concordia on the stat sheet. The win advances AQ to a 8-1 overall record and 4-1 in the WHAC. The loss moves the Cardinals to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Saints led the Cardinals offensively as AQ hit .266 as a team and totaled 64 kills. Concordia hit a .139 team average and finished with 48 kills. AQ tallied 61 assists to Concordia's 46 assists, and the Saints also rattled off six team service aces.
Defensively, AQ finished with 10 team blocks and 89 digs. Concordia only recorded three team blocks but totaled 86 digs.
Jackie Rozell had a standout performance in tonight's match for the Saints, totaling a career-high 25 kills and hitting a .426 percentage. Rozell also tallied a career-best 17 digs, three service aces, and a pair of block assists for AQ. Freshman Samee Teachworth finished with 11 kills on 18 attempts recording a .556 hitting percentage.
Payton Klein recorded 12 kills and notched a .257 percentage. Klein also added a career-high 16 digs and five block assists. Adrien Yondo also totaled a career-high with 22 digs in the match while Kali Crawford dished out 30 assists and had eight digs.
Emily Jones was exceptional at the net, tallying eight block assists for the Saints. Kylie Christensen tallied eight kills and six digs for AQ. Chloe Mitchell totaled 23 assists and six digs.
The Saints are back on the court Tuesday (Feb. 23) as AQ hosts the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech in another WHAC showdown. The match is set to begin at 4:00 PM inside the Sturrus Center.
