The Aquinas women's basketball team hosted the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech in a WHAC matchup on Wednesday night (Feb. 17) inside the Sturrus Center. Despite a strong second-half performance by the Saints, Lawrence Tech was able to pull out the win by a 69-58 score. The loss moves Aquinas to 4-6 overall and 4-6 in WHAC play.

The Saints struggled in the first half shooting 23.1% from the field in both the first and second quarters. Meanwhile, Lawrence Tech was strong offensively shooting 50% in the first and 58.3% in the second, heading into the locker room at halftime with a 35-17 lead. 

Lawrence Tech notched their largest lead of the night at the 8:29 mark in the third quarter (40-17). The Saints battled back and went on a 19-8 scoring run to put them in a better position heading in the fourth quarter only down by 12 points (48-36).

AQ posted the first five points of the fourth quarter bringing the margin down to seven points. Despite the fight back, Aquinas couldn't come closer than seven points against the Blue Devils. The win advances Lawrence Tech to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in conference.

Aquinas finished shooting 31.1% from the field (19-61). AQ shot 20.8% from downtown going 5-24. Lawrence Tech shot 46% from the field and the Blue Devils were solid from behind the arc shooting 50% (11-22). The Blue Devils knocked down every free throw in tonight's contest (12-12).

The Saints edged out Lawrence Tech in rebounds (36-34) and steals (6-4). Aquinas also tallied three blocks while the Blue Devils had none. Lawrence Tech led AQ in total assists (17-12) but recorded 13 turnovers to the Saints' seven. 

Marissa Brady led the Saints with her ninth double-double recording 12 points, all of which were in the second half, and 15 rebounds. Brady also added a pair of blocks. Jaylynn Williams posted a 10-point total and had two rebounds for AQ. 

JaKarri Alven tallied nine points shooting 3-4 from the field and was 3-3 from the free throw line. Alven also added three rebounds. Daz'Sha Day went 6-6 from the charity stripe totaling eight points. Day posted four rebounds and a pair of assists for the Saints. Mauriya Barnes finished with eight points and tallied a pair of rebounds. 

AQ is back on the court Saturday (Feb. 20) as the Saints travel down the road to face crosstown rival Cornerstone in a big WHAC showdown. Tip-off against the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
