The Aquinas women's volleyball team hosted Lawrence Tech in a big WHAC showdown on Tuesday evening (Feb. 23) in the Sturrus Center. Despite the Saints dropping the third set, AQ battled back taking the fourth set and winning the match by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 16-25, and 25-22.
AQ dominated the first set hitting .286 and totaling 17 kills as a team. Aquinas kept the momentum going into the second game hitting a .242 average. The Blue Devils rallied in the third set hitting .257 as a team and totaling 13 kills. The Saints grabbed the win as Lawrence Tech finished with nine attack errors in the fourth set.
The win progresses the Saints to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in WHAC play. The loss moves the Blue Devils to 2-6 overall and a 2-6 conference record.
NAIA National Attacker of the Week Jackie Rozell, as announced today, led the Saints with 15 kills. Rozell also totaled 14 digs for the Saints. Payton Klein hit .312 in today's match, finishing with 12 kills. Klein also exceeded her previous career-high set last week by tallying 17 digs for AQ. Klein also added two service aces and two block assists.
Kali Crawford dished out her season-high 45 assists and tallied 12 digs and five kills. Kylie Christensen hit .270 with 12 kills and notched nine digs. Christensen also had AQ's only solo block of the night. Adrien Yondo recorded 10 digs and five assists while Kenzi Dobosiewicz added nine digs for Aquinas. Samee Teachworth totaled five kills and two block assists.
Aquinas edged Lawrence Tech on the stat sheet in kills (52-49) and digs (81-78). The Saints totaled six team blocks to the Blue Devils two block total. LTU tallied 11 service aces as AQ recorded five. Aquinas finished with the advantage in assists (51-43).
The Saints are back in action Friday (Feb. 26) as AQ travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete in another WHAC matchup. Aquinas will take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech in a huge conference contest starting at 8:00 PM.
