The Aquinas women's basketball team held a slight one-point lead entering the fourth quarter of Thursday night's (Feb. 4) road WHAC contest at Lawrence Tech. AQ was in front 50-49 and the score was still tied at 60-60 with four minutes remaining, but the home Blue Devils scored 10 of the game's final 12 points to earn the 70-62 victory.

It was AQ's second game in a row, having defeated Cornerstone in a tight rivalry contest on Wednesday (Feb. 3) in the Sturrus Center, 74-67. Thursday's result puts the Saints at 1-2 on the season and 1-2 in WHAC play. Lawrence Tech improves to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in league action.

The Blue Devils outshot Aquinas from the floor, 44.7 to 36.7, while both teams were frequent visitors at the charity stripe. AQ was 15-for-18 at the line, while LTU went 20-for-23. Lawrence Tech held an 8-3 advantage in made three-pointers.

Aquinas led in points in the paint, 38-24, and won the rebounding battle 31-23. The AQ bench outscored Lawrence Tech's by a stunning 21-0 margin.Â

In three games this season,
Marissa Brady has posted three double-doubles. The junior center notched 23 points and 12 rebounds on Thursday night, while adding three blocks and two steals. She went 8-for-17 from the field and 7-of-8 at the stripe.
Mauriya Barnes joined Brady in double-digits with a season-best 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting. She hit a pair of three-pointers.

Brighton Miller, Jakarri Alven, and
Jaylynn Williams all scored six points apiece, while
Jayda Smith added five points. Williams dished four assists and
Daz'Sha Day chipped in four rebounds and three assists.

A low-scoring first quarter saw LTU hold an 11-9 lead. Two late second quarter free throws from Brady gave Aquinas the 27-26 halftime advantage. It was an offensive third quarter, with each team netting 23 points apiece and AQ still holding the 50-49 edge.

The score was tied at 60-60 with 5:15 remaining and neither team scored until LTU made a layup at the 3:44 mark. A three-pointer at the 2:03 mark gave the Blue Devils a 65-60 edge. It was 68-60 in the final minute, as Lawrence Tech went on a 10-2 run to close out the game.
