AQ Women Fall in Tough 1-0 Contest at Marian

Saints are back in action on Thursday afternoon at IU-Kokomo

There was a lot of defense played on Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 2) when the Aquinas and Marian women's soccer teams squared off in Indianapolis. Neither team could find the back of the net until the 80th minute, when the Knights put in the game's only goal for the 1-0 home victory.

It was AQ's first loss of the season, dropping the Saints to 2-1 overall. Marian completed a near-full schedule in the fall and improves to 15-1 in the combined season. Tuesday was the Knights' first official game since Nov. 14.

The teams had a few chances in the opening half, with Marian owning a 11-5 advantage in shots. Both Hannah Crum and Lauryn Deshane attempted shots on goal in the first 11 minutes, but both were saved.

Marian made a few substitutions in the 75th minute and inserted Mackenzie Hall at 78:40. Less than 40 seconds later, she scored the lone goal for the Knights, putting the home team on top 1-0. Aquinas was not able to record a shot in the remaining 20 minutes of the non-conference showdown.

Overall, Marian led in shots 20-7 and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also owned a 5-0 advantage on corners. AQ committed 11 fouls to 10 for Marian.

Braeleigh McCoy made four saves in goal for Aquinas. Crum was the lone Saint with multiple shot attempts.

The Saints return to the field on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 4) at 2:45 against IU-Kokomo in Westfield, Ind.
