The Aquinas women's soccer team put forth a great 90 minutes on both sides of the field on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 4) in Westfield, Ind., as the Saints blanked IU-Kokomo, 5-0. AQ received a hat trick from
Hannah Crum and outshot the Cougars by a 21-2 margin in the dominant victory.
With the win, Aquinas improves to 3-1 on the season, while IU-Kokomo falls to 6-9-1. AQ was coming off a tough 1-0 defeat on Tuesday (Mar. 2) to Marian, which is ranked third in the country. The Saints rebounded by scoring five goals for the second time in three games.
Crum netted her first goal in the 21st minute, on a goal assisted by
Katelyn Kahael. 20 minutes later, the Saints doubled their lead on a
Laia Cunill goal.
Marie-Louise Abild was credited with the assist on Cunill's second goal of the year and AQ went to halftime on top, 2-0.
The Saints outshot IU-Kokomo 8-2 over the first 45 minutes and held a 5-1 edge in corners.
Crum recorded her second goal five minutes into the second half and completed the hat trick in the 72nd minute to give Aquinas the 4-0 advantage.
Shelby Baxter closed out the scoring at the 85:54 mark with her first goal of the season.
Aquinas outshot the Cougars 13-0 in the second half for a final 21-2 overall tally. That included a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. AQ led in corner kicks, 11-3.
Crum scored three goals on her only three shots of the game, giving her a team-high five goals on the year.
Sydney Shenk added five shots and three on goal.
Tairyn Webb started in goal for the Saints and earned a shutout, needing to make just one save in the win.
Aquinas plays its home opener on Saturday (Mar. 6) at 5:00 p.m. when the Saints host Indiana Tech at the AQ Athletic Field.
