The Aquinas women's soccer team traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face Concordia in a big WHAC contest on Friday evening (Mar. 26). With Hannah Crum completing a hat trick and AQ's strong offense, the #18 Saints claimed the big 5-2 victory over the Cardinals.
Aquinas advances to a 10-1 overall record, and 8-0 WHAC record. The win today earns the Saints regular season WHAC championship honors.
Crum netted the first two goals of today's contest, getting Aquinas off to a big 2-0 lead. Concordia responded, bringing them within one goal. Just over a minute later, Lauryn Deshane found the back of the net putting AQ back up two goals.
One more goal for the Cardinals before halftime gave AQ the skinny 3-2 lead at the break. Concordia was scoreless in the second half as Aquinas netted two more (Ariana Garcia and Crum) to grab the big 5-2 win and clinch the WHAC title. The loss drops Concordia to 5-5 overall, 5-4 in conference play.
The Saints were led by Crum, who played a role in every AQ goal. She tallied a hat-trick and assisted the other two goals. Deshane posted the third goal and assisted Crum's second goal. Laia Cunill also added an assist on the second goal. Garcia scored the other goal for the Saints.
Aquinas recorded 22 total shots with 11 shots on goal. Concordia finished with eight shots with seven shots on goal. AQ goalkeeper, Braeleigh McCoy, played the whole 90 minutes posting four saves.
AQ returns to the field next Monday (Mar. 29) to conclude the 2021 regular season. The Saints host Siena Heights in another WHAC contest starting at 4:00 PM at the AQ Athletic Field.
