The Aquinas women's hockey team remained unbeaten with a pair of weekend victories over Concordia in a home-and-home series. Late Friday night (Mar. 5), AQ used an
Amelia Bartels overtime goal to secure the 1-0 road win before following up with a 3-0 victory on the home ice at Southside on Saturday evening (Mar. 6).
Â
With the wins, AQ improves to 6-0-1 on the season. The shutouts are the second and third of  the year for Aquinas, which has allowed only six goals in seven games in 2021. After the pair of losses, Concordia is 3-4 this year.
Â
Friday's game at CUAA was a defensive battle, with neither team scoring in regulation. Tied at 0-0 in overtime, Bartels sent everybody home with the game's only goal just 58 seconds into the extra session.
Anna Castle and
Natalie Vaitas earned the assist on the game-winner.
Â
AQ dominated play to the tune of a 46-14 shot advantage, with goalie
Ally Kennedy recording the shutout by making 14 stops in net.Â
Â
Saturday's rematch was scoreless after one period, but Aquinas got on the board at the 17:14 mark of the second stanza when
Grace Waldo found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Tori Feddema was tabbed with the assist.Â
Â
It was still 1-0 heading into the third, when
Morgan Kozar doubled the Saints lead to 2-0 with a goal less than three minutes into the period.
Chloe Donnelly tallied the helper on the Kozar score.
Mikayla Oppermann added an insurance goal with 5:48 remaining, with the unassisted tally making it a 3-0 final.
Â
AQ held an even larger discrepancy on Saturday in the shot column with a 64-16 advantage.
Kadynce Romijn stopped all 16 shots to earn her second win and shutout of the year.
Â
The Saints are back in action for a third time this weekend, as Aquinas takes on Davenport on Sunday night in a rescheduled game from earlier in the year. AQ hosts the Panthers at Southside Ice Arena at 7:20 p.m.
