The Aquinas women's lacrosse team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a big WHAC contest against the Warriors of Indiana Tech on Monday night (Apr. 12). The Saints strong offense to finish the game earned them the huge conference victory over the Warriors by a 15-13 score.
The Saints and Warriors battled to start the first half as each team went on little runs to reclaim the lead. AQ's Cierra Davis netted the first goal of the game to get Aquinas out to the lead. A 5-2 run by Indiana Tech put the Warriors up 5-3 in response.Â
A 3-0 run from three different Aquinas scorers grabbed the lead back for the Saints. Indiana Tech scored the last two goals of the first half to go up one and earn the slim 8-7 first half advantage.Â
With Aquinas down two with close to 20 minutes left in the game, AQ rallied the offense to grab two quick goals (scored by Davis) to tie the game at 11 a piece to force a Warriors timeout.Â
Each team tallied one goal to tie the game back at 12. Two more goals from Davis and a goal from Megan Moffat under five minutes left earned AQ the big three-goal lead and clinched the win. Indiana Tech netted one more goal with 15 seconds left to make it a final 15-13 score. The win advances AQ to a 5-2 overall record, 3-1 WHAC and the loss moves Indiana Tech to a 4-4 overall record, 3-2 in conference.
The Saints were led by Davis who netted an impressive nine goals of her 11 shots on goal. Davis also added three draw controls. Naomi Plant was the next highest scorer for AQ totaling three goals and four draw controls.Â
Carli Taylor and Moffat netted the other two goals for the Saints. Taylor also notched five draw controls. Kennadie Minerich had a huge impact defensively, causing two turnovers and grabbing four draw controls.Â
Azariah Wells earned the win in goal for the Saints playing the whole 60 minutes and posting 12 saves and three ground balls.Â
Aquinas returns to play this Thursday (Apr. 15) as AQ hosts Lawrence Tech at the AQ Athletic Field. The game is set to begin at 12:00 PM against the Blue Devils.
