Saints Tie Knights 1-1 After Two Overtimes

Fin Pittock scores the equalizing goal in the second half to force the tie

The Aquinas men's soccer team forced a tie with the Marian Knights by a score of 1-1 after two overtimes on Tuesday evening (Sept. 14). The non-conference contest was played at St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Saints record moves to 0-1-1 after the tie and the Knights' record is now 3-3-2 after 110 minutes of play. 

Marian scored the first goal only two minutes into the contest as Valentin Neuhold put away one of the two Knight shots on goal for the whole game. The Saints were able to get off 10 shots compared to the Knight four in the first half, but were unable to even the score before halftime. 

Fin Pittock came through with his first goal of the season in the 67th minute to tie the game up at one. Taking a pass from Baptiste Bissessur, Pittock was able to beat the goalkeeper for his third career goal. Aquinas had another 14 shots in the second half, while holding the Knights to only two before the overtime periods.

Two 10-minute overtime sessions followed regulation that saw AQ take eight shots with Marian only taking one. However, neither team was abe to put the ball in the back of the net as the game resulted in a 1-1 tie.

Antonio Strassioto moves his record to 0-1-1 after making one save and allowing the one goal. Brendan Weiger started the game at goalkeeper for the Knights, as his record moves to 3-3-2 by making 11 saves and giving up one goal.

The Saints outshot the Knights 32-7 for the game and also held a 13-2 advantage for shots on net. AQ led in in corner kicks 14-4, while committing 26 fouls to the Knights' 11.

Aquinas will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 for its home opener against Bethel (Ind.) at the AQ Athletic Field with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
