AQ Men's Soccer Drops Homecoming Game to Bethel

Saints fall behind early and cannot catch up for 3-0 defeat

The Aquinas men's soccer team dropped the homecoming match against Bethel by a score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 18). The non-conference matchup was played at the AQ Athletic Field.

Bethel got a quick lead in the 23rd minute and the Saints were unable to respond, falling to 0-2-1. The Pilots scored two more goals in the second half for a final score of 3-0 to advance to 5-3.

Miguel Martin scored for the Pilots in the 23rd minute. Bethel scored two more times in the 66th and 79th minute of the second half. Those two goals were credited to Salifyaji Alemanji and Luis Sabino respectively. 

Aquinas tallied four shots on goal in the first half and two in the second, neither of the two shots on goal managed to find the back on the net. Bethel had five shots in the first half with an additional 11 in the second half, with 11 shots on goal. Three of the 11 shots on target found the back on the net for the Pilots.

Antonio Strassioto (0-2-1) started in net again for the Saints while recording eight saves on the day. Joyce Franklin started the match at goalkeeper for the Pilots, improving his record to 2-0 for the season.

Bethel outshot the Saints 16-6 over the course of the game while holding an 11-2 advantage in shots on target. The Saints held the advantage in fouls (12-13), saves (8-2), and corner kicks (4-1).

AQ will be back on the pitch next week on Tuesday, September 21 against Taylor University. The game will be played in Upland, Indiana at 7:00 PM.
