The #14 Aquinas women's soccer team was upended by #7 Marian for its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 18). With homecoming festivities happening on campus around the AQ Athletic Field, the Saints were unable to overcome the two second-half goals the Knights scored for the 2-0 finish.
Aquinas' record drops to 5-1 after suffering its first lost on the young season, while Marian's record now stands at 8-1.
The first half was a good defensive battle between the two ranked teams as there were only eight shots attempted combined with the Saints holding the 5-3 advantage. The scoreboard read 0-0 going into halftime.
The Knights opened the scoring in the 59th minute as Allie Schlom collected the eventual game-winning goal and then Maya Decker added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute to make the final score 2-0.
Tairyn Webb (3-1) suffered her first loss in net of the season after recording four saves and allowing two goals. Noelle Rolfsen finished with the shutout win after collecting two saves for the Knights.
The Saints took 10 total shots with two being on target, while the Knights finished with 12 shots on the day with six being on target. AQ had six attempts at a corner kick compared to Marian's eight, while Aquinas committed 12 fouls to the Knights' eight.
Aquinas will have a quick turnaround as it hosts Saint Xavier in a make up game from earlier this season on Monday (Sept. 20) at the AQ Athletic Field, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
