The #14 Aquinas women's soccer got off to a big start in WHAC play over the Cleary Cougars on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 25). Playing on the AQ Athletic Field, the Saints scored seven first half goals and then three more in the second half with a running clock to overwhelm the Cougars by a 10-0 score.
Aquinas' overall record improves to 7-1 on the season with a 3-1 home record and a 1-0 WHAC record, while Cleary's record now stands at 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.
The seven goals that Aquinas scored in the first 45 minutes of play were done in a 36 minute span.
Macy Hollingsworth scored the eventual game-winner and her fourth goal of the season in the 12th minute to get the scoring party started.
Sydney Shenk followed that up with two goals in the 21st and 24th minutes and now has a season total of five goals.

America Lemus all scored their first goals of the season in the 28th, 36th, and 44th minutes, while
Laia Cunill tallied her third goal of the season in the 35th minute. Â
Hannah Crum opened the second half scoring in the 49th minute by scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The Cougars has a defensive mishap in the 64th minute by scoring an own goal.
Emma Gould scored her first collegiate goal at Aquinas in the 70th minute to get AQ to the 10-0 winning score.
Ariana Garcia contributed three assists in the winning effort and now leads the team with eight on the season.
Hannah Bowling was also credited for two assists, while Cunill, Holingsworth, and Kahael also added assists to their scoring lines.
Tairyn Webb (5-1) played the first half, but did not see a single shot for the second straight contest.
Maddi Vick was in net for the second half and made one save in the combined shutout. Juliana Caro took the loss in net for CU after collecting nine saves and allowing seven goals in the first half with Kara Donaldson coming in for the second half and saving nine shots to go along with the three goals allowed.
The Saints took 55 total shots with 28 being on target, while the Cougars finished with their only shot attempt being on goal. AQ had six attempts at a corner kick compared to CU's one, while Aquinas committed eight fouls to the Cougars' nine.
Aquinas will continue WHAC play by traveling down the road to face Cornerstone on Tuesday (Sept. 28) at the CU Soccer Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
