Mike Curran Adds Two More Assists in 2-0 Win Over LTU

AQ gets a big sweep over Lawrence Tech to move to 14-5

The #20 Aquinas Saints took to home ice last night (Jan. 15) to play the second game of their series against the #24 Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. After winning 7-3 against LTU on Friday (Jan. 14), Aquinas was looking to pick another ranked win against a ranked conference opponent. Aquinas would do just that, winning the game 2-0 after holding a 1-0 for the majority of the game.

It was a defensive battle at Southside Ice Arena as both teams played solid defense. Aquinas managed to score first at 11:25 in the first period. Senior David Elford keeps his hot streak alive with another goal. This was Elford's ninth goal of the season, just one shy of Darren Johnson's team-leading ten goals. The goal was assisted by senior, Mike Curran, and sophomore, Danny Barry. This was Curran's team-leading 14th assist of the season and Barry's first assist of the season.

AQ had a goal disallowed just one minute later, and that would be the closest that the two teams would get to scoring before entering the locker rooms for the first intermission.

The Blue Devils had four powerplay opportunities in the second period but were unable to capitalize off any of them. AQ killed all four penalties, keeping the score at 1-0. The third period was much of the same as neither team was able to score until there was just seven seconds left in the game. Johnson scored his team-leading tenth goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Curran, his 15th of the season. The game would end 2-0.

The Saints are now 14-5 on the year with an 11-4 conference record.

Michael Allman picked up his fifth win of the year with the shutout win. Allman was 19-for-19 on saves during the game.

Aquinas will be back in action next weekend with a two-game series against UM-Dearborn. The Friday game (Jan. 21) will be played at UMD Campus Arena with a puck drop at 7:00 PM. The Saturday game (Jan. 22) will be played at Southside with an 8:00 PM puck drop.
